Halloween 2026 Special: 20 Ghostly Tales with a Twist...

For many, Halloween is a great opportunity to read some ghost-stories. For me, that opportunity only starts with Halloween, but extends at least until deep into mid-winter. Between All Hallows Eve's spirits, Christmas Ghosts and the icy hands of January winds: this entire season is ghost-season to me. You'll find plenty of ghostly recommendations on my blog, across many genres, including some specific guides, which I'll link below. Instead of overwhelming everyone once again with an even longer list, I decided to keep it concise, accessible and casual this year. Here are 20 ghostly tales that I lovingly recommend, all of which transcend your classic poltergheist and put their own original spin on the ghost-trope.
Fret not if you aren't big on scary stories: I made sure to divide the list evenly between horror- and non-horror books.
